Introduction to Summit Workshop

Introduction to Summit Workshop
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (on-site)
Building 5200, TN Rooms A,B,C
Monday, May 20, 2019
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (ET)

The Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF) will host an Introduction to Summit Workshop on Monday, May 20, 2019. This event is meant to help new Summit users, those intending to use Summit, or those interested in learning about the Summit system. There will be a combination of presentations and hands-on sessions.

Who Should Attend?
The target audience for this workshop are new Summit users and those who intend to use Summit in the future. Please note that participants will need to bring a laptop (with an ssh client) and meet the following pre-requisites:

  • Familiarity with Linux
  • Familiarity with a programming language such as C/C++ or Fortran
  • Familiarity using an HPC system (e.g., how to use a job scheduler)

**This event will occur the day before the 2019 OLCF User Meeting, so User Meeting participants are encouraged to arrive a day early to attend.

NOTE to non-badged attendees: If you have already been cleared by the Personnel Access office to attend the 2019 OLCF User Meeting, then you have also been cleared to attend this Monday session; otherwise, you will need to get cleared to attend this separate one-day workshop.

During the Workshop
The workshop will consist of presentations in the morning followed by a hands-on session in the afternoon (see “Agenda” tab below). The presentations are meant to deliver relevant information about the system (system overview, job launcher, programming environment, etc.), while the hands-on sessions are intended to demonstrate specific aspects of the Summit system through a set of provided example programs.

Please note that we will be using the Ascent system for this workshop (unless you already have Summit access). Ascent is a stand-alone system consisting of 18 nodes identical to Summit’s nodes.

Deadlines for Non-Badged Attendees to Register for In-Person Attendance
Non-Badged US citizens must register for in-person attendance by May 13, 2019.
