October 2026 OLCF User Conference Call: Quantum Computation for Strong-Force Simulations at High Energies

The OLCF hosts monthly User Conference Calls. These calls are your opportunity to speak with center personnel to get the latest updates, express any concerns you may have, etc. No registration is required for this event. An email with an invite to the event will be sent to OLCF users approximately one week beforehand.

Monthly Topic:  Quantum Computation for Strong-Force Simulations at High Energies

Speakers: Herschel Chawdhry (FSU)

Abstract:

Quantum computers promise efficient new routes to solve classically hard computational problems, including for the simulation of complex physical systems. This talk presents research seeking to identify, quantify, and demonstrate beyond-classical capabilities of quantum computers in the domain of high-energy Strong-Force computations, which are vital for exploiting precision measurements of particle collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. State-of-the-art quantum computers with up to 98 qubits, accessed via OLCF’s Quantum Computing User Program, are used to design, refine, test, and demonstrate the quantum circuits and algorithms developed as part of this research. Ultimately the work is anticipated to improve the speed and precision of computations for Strong-Force predictions and thereby maximize our ability to exploit precision measurements to identify signs of new fundamental particles awaiting discovery.
