Join us for CAW 2021

July 20 and 21, 2021

9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EDT Each Day
Virtual Event

Thanks to a great turnout last year and increasing interest in several key areas, the Computational and Autonomous Workflows (CAW) workshop is returning this summer on July 20th and 21st. The workshop will bring together the ORNL workflow community to explore the new and developing opportunities for ORNL leadership in workflows necessitated by the FAIR principles for data — Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable. To take advantage of the increasing focus on scalable data for science and on building shared computational ecosystems at ORNL, the theme of CAW 2021 is “FAIR Workflows.”

Please register below to join us: July 20 and 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EDT each day. Feel free to forward this to any of your colleagues or groups at ORNL who may be interested. We will be soliciting participation through lightning talks, panels, and breakouts as we get closer.

The dial-in information for this virtual event will be sent to registered participants ahead of the meeting.

Daniel Garijo Verdejo

Daniel Garijo Verdejo is a distinguished researcher at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where he also completed his PhD. Previously, he held a Research Computer Scientist position at the Information Sciences Institute of the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles. Daniel’s line of research focuses on the area of e-Science, in particular on capturing the context and metadata of scientific software and computational experiments to foster their (re)usability. In order to do so, all the elements belonging to an experiment are converted to Knowledge Graphs and exposed as Linked Data, in both human-readable and machine-readable manner. During his career, Daniel has participated in community initiatives critical for establishing or promoting the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) principles, such as W3C standardization processes (e.g., Provenance Incubator Group, Provenance Working Group), the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative and the Research Data Alliance FAIR for Research Software (FAIR4RS).

Closing Keynote, July 21 at 12:00 pm: Christine Kirkpatrick

Christine Kirkpatrick

Christine Kirkpatrick

Christine Kirkpatrick oversees the San Diego Supercomputer Center’s (SDSC) Research Data Services division, which manages infrastructure, networking, and services for research projects of regional and national scope. Kirkpatrick expertise in the implementation of research computing services and operational cyberinfrastructure (CI) at scale. Kirkpatrick founded and hosts the US GO FAIR Office at SDSC, is on the leadership of the West Big Data Innovation Hub, the Open Storage Network, and PI of the EarthCube Office (ECO). She serves on the Technical Advisory Board (TAB) for the Research Data Alliance (RDA), the external Advisory Board for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Nordic, and the National Academies of Sciences’ U.S. National Committee for the Committee on Data (CODATA).

We are soliciting lightning talks to be given during the workshop. The lightning talks should be 5 minutes each, 5 slides or less, and based on the workshop theme of “FAIR Workflows”.

Short abstracts (~350 words) for the lightning talks should be submitted through EasyChair via the following link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=caw2021. The committee will review the abstracts, contact selected authors, and integrate the ideas into the program for the workshop. We will use EasyChair for the submission of the PowerPoint slides for the talks as well.

Abstracts are due July 9, and authors of accepted talks will be notified no later than July 13.
