OLCF 25th Anniversary Celebration

This year, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is celebrating 25 years of leadership in high performance computing. Our position in this vital field can be traced to the High Performance Computing Act of 1991 and the creation of the ORNL Center for Computational Sciences in May 1992. Following the passage of the Department of Energy (DOE) High-End Computing Revitalization Act of 2004, the Center for Computational Science was selected as the first DOE Leadership Computing Facility and was renamed the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF).

On the morning of November 7, 2017, we plan to have a celebration featuring many distinguished speakers who have helped shape the OLCF. We will celebrate OLCF’s history, discuss the science and innovation enabled by high performance computing, and think about the future of massively parallel computing.

Please register here if you are planning to attend. All attendees without an ORNL badge must register to be granted access to ORNL.

In conjunction with the 25th anniversary celebration, Dr. Martin Karplus will present a special Eugene P. Wigner Distinguished Lecture in Science, Technology, and Policy, titled “What Does the Future Hold?” Dr. Karplus is the Theodore William Richards Professor of Chemistry Emeritus at Harvard University and a co-recipient of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He pioneered methods in computational chemistry and utilized the capabilities of high performance computing to develop multiscale models for complex chemical systems. The special Wigner Lecture is a lab-wide event for all ORNL staff. Participants in the 25th anniversary celebration are welcome to attend. Seating is available on a first come, first serve basis.

ORNL-BADGED STAFF DO NOT NEED TO PRE-REGISTER.
