ATS Seminar Series: Joe Eaton
The Advanced Technologies Section (ATS) of the National Center for Computational Sciences at ORNL is a world leader in developing and deploying scientific and technical solutions for leadership-class computing environments. The R&D activities of ATS are organized around designing and deploying leadership class systems, developing artificial intelligence solutions for science and smart facilities of the future, and stewardship of data and workflows at scale to enable science. The ATS Seminar Series is a forum for learning from experts and engaging with collaborators to advance their scientific mission.
Seminar Title:
Accelerated Data Science on National Lab Resources, an Introduction to RAPIDS
We will introduce and review the capabilities of RAPIDS for Data Science and Graph Analytics. In a nutshell, RAPIDS provides a GPU-accelerated, end-to-end Jupyter notebook environment that mimics the pyData stack (pandas, scikit-learn and networkX), provides accelerated IO and distributed task management through DASK, and enables interactive data exploration and ETL tasks at scale. When combined with BlazingSQL for SQL language queries over large raw datasets, RAPIDS enables a new highly interactive paradigm for data science and data driven science.
Speaker:
Joe Eaton
Principal System Engineer for Data and Graph Analytics, NVIDIA Corporation
Joe Eaton is the Principal System Engineer for Data and Graph Analytics at NVIDIA. He received a Ph.D. from the UT Austin TICAM program in Computational and Applied Math. Joe began work at NVIDIA on applications of sparse linear algebra in CUDA Libraries: cuSOLVER, cuSPARSE, nvGRAPH and AmgX. He was one of the founders and architects of RAPIDS, developing Python APIs, cuML and cuGRAPH. Currently he is engaged in new areas of GPU applications around combinatorial optimization and constrained optimization problems for logistics and planning. Previously he spent 18 years in Oil & Gas reservoir simulation, database development, and web services back-end development. He is a frequent speaker at SC, GTC, and directly interfaces with engineers and mathematicians across industries.
