Project Description
Accelerator-based facilities such as particle colliders and x-ray light sources are an important part of the DOE Office of Science portfolio. Design of new facilities (and upgrading the existing ones) relies in an essential way on computer simulation. Because every new generation of facilities goes beyond the previously achieved state-of-the-art and targets a region of machine parameters where experimental measurements are not yet possible, it is especially important to ensure fidelity and reliability of computer simulations used in the design process, thereby reducing technical risk. In addition, improving the throughput of simulations can greatly streamline design and optimization process, resulting in cost savings to the DOE. The GPU-enabled version of ELEGANT will provide the benefits of improved throughput and fidelity of simulations to the DOE particle accelerator research community.
