Project Description
This project requires the simulation of several fuel cycles of an operating nuclear reactor using deterministic and Monte Carlo radiation transport codes. We will run 4 cycles which requires simulating 100 state points per cycle. To get the statistics from Shift (the Monte Carlo transport solver) that we desire, we need to run 1×1010 particle histories per state point. This leads to a total of 4×1012 total particle histories over 4 cycles. Based upon previous calculations using Shift for CASL problems, we estimate we can run 8×105 particle histories per CPU-hr. Therefore, we estimate needing 5×10^6 CPU-hrs to perform the simulations needed for this project.
