Smoky Mountain Conference Data Challenge 2022

You are invited to participate in Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s the Smoky Mountains Data Challenge (https://smc-datachallenge.ornl.gov/). It is comprised of 8 data analytics challenges based on data sets contributed by ORNL, Industries, and Academia. Expert data scientists, as well as students, are called to participate. Registration is open until June 23 (hxxps://smc-datachallenge.ornl.gov/registration/). Winners will have an opportunity to publish their solutions and participate in the Smoky Mountains Computational Sciences and Engineering Conference.

2023 INCITE Call for Proposals
The 2023 Innovative and Novel Computational Impact on Theory and Experiment (INCITE) Call for Proposals is now open and closes June 17 for new proposals (July 22 for renewals).

The INCITE program seeks proposals for high-impact, computationally intensive research campaigns in a broad array of science, engineering, and computer science domains. The program promotes transformational advances in science and technology through large allocations of computer time and supporting resources at the Argonne and Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facilities operated by the DOE Office of Science. INCITE is open to researchers from all institutions, including academia, industry, and government agencies.

INCITE is also devoting 10% of its allocatable compute time to a new Early Career Track, which aims to encourage the next generation of HPC researchers by focusing on principal investigators who are within 10 years of earning their doctorate degrees (on or after December 31, 2012).

Meetings & Workshops

Data Visualization & Analytics Series: Jupyter Workflow at OLCF
July 14, 1:00–3:00p.m. EDT
The OLCF is proud to offer the first event of the Data Visualization and Analytics training series: Jupyter Workflow at OLCF. Jupyter notebooks offer a unique environment for users to analyze and process scientific data. The interactive nature of the web interface allows one to debug, visualize, and share code instantly, without having to handle everything on the command-line. This event will provide an overview of how to access Jupyter at OLCF and how to utilize the interface in an analytics setting, including hands-on examples of how to analyze data generated on OLCF systems, along with a Deep Learning workflow demo run with Jupyter.

The hands-on component of this training is limited to 30 users with moderate security enclave projects (i.e. able to access Summit/Andes), although others are welcome to sign up and attend the presentations. Additionally, hands-on examples will be available after the event for Moderate users to access and work with on their own. For more information or to register, see https://www.olcf.ornl.gov/calendar/data-visualization-and-analytics-training-series-jupyter-workflow-at-olcf/.

Attention Novice Parallel Programmers: “Crash Course in Supercomputing”June 14 3:30pm EDT – 8:00 pm EDTIn collaboration with the Berkeley Lab Computing Sciences Summer Student Program, NERSC is again offering the “Crash Course in Supercomputing”, open to NERSC, OLCF, and ALCF users as well as Berkeley Lab summer students, on June 14. In this course, students will learn to write parallel programs that can be run on a supercomputer. We begin by discussing the concepts of parallelization before introducing MPI and OpenMP, the two leading parallel programming libraries. Hands-on exercises reinforce the concepts learned in the course. Training accounts will be provided for students who have not yet set up a NERSC account. For more information and to register, please see https://www.olcf.ornl.gov/calendar/crash-course-in-supercomputing/

IDEAS-ECP Webinar on “Normalizing Inclusion by Embracing Difference”June 15, 1:00 pm EDTThe next webinar in the Best Practices for HPC Software Developers series is entitled “Normalizing Inclusion by Embracing Difference”, and will take place Wednesday, June 15, at 10:00 am Pacific time.

In this webinar, Mary Ann Leung (Sustainable Horizons Institute) will lead a 90-minute, interactive session exploring what it takes to achieve Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), how DEI could increase innovation and developer productivity, as well as how cultivating respect and embracing difference could help to make inclusion the norm. The webinar will also include important activities for applying the concepts discussed, deepening understanding, and increasing potential impact.

There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Please click and register here.https://www.exascaleproject.org/event/embracingdifference/
