USER ASSISTANCE CENTER SCHEDULE
The User Assistance Center will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 due to an ORNL-observed holiday. The normal user assistance schedule (weekdays 9 AM – 5 PM Eastern Time) will resume on Thursday, July 5. NOTE: The ORNL Computer Operations staff will still be available for limited troubleshooting 24 hours a day.
SMOKY MOUNTAIN CONFERENCE SECOND ANNUAL DATA CHALLENGE
The 2018 Smoky Mountains Computational Sciences and Engineering Conference (SMC18) is currently accepting teams to participate in its 2nd Annual Data Challenge. This contest is open to students, faculty, and industry professionals who are interested in performing novel analysis on real scientific data sets. Teams of one to four people may participate.
ORNL data sponsors will provide teams with actual scientific data sets to explore 3 to 5 related challenge questions. The challenge questions for each data set will cover multiple difficulty levels, with the first question in each challenge being suitable for a novice, and each question thereafter increasing in difficultly, with the series of questions ending with an advanced/expert level challenge question. The top teams will be invited to attend SMC18 in Gatlinburg, TN, where they will present their work and the winner will be crowned. Registration is open until June 22 and the competition ends July 31 (submissions are due by 5:00 PM Eastern on July 31).
The Data Challenge is intended to draw scientists and researchers who may be at the beginning stages of incorporating data analytics into their workflow, to data analytics experts who are interested in applying novel techniques to data sets of national importance.
To register, or for more information, visit the Data Challenge website.
MEETINGS & WORKSHOPS
PERFORMANCE PORTABILITY WITH KOKKOS (JUL 24-27)
The OLCF will host an on-site Kokkos training event organized by the Exascale Computing Project (ECP) on July 24-27, 2018. This training will cover the minimum required topics to get your application started on using Kokkos. Please see the event page for more details.
OLCF GPU HACKATHON: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The OLCF is pleased to announce that team applications for the OLCF GPU Hackathon are now being accepted. This event will take place October 22-26, 2018 at ORNL. The deadline to apply is July 27, 2018. Prior GPU experience is not required, as those selected will be paired with experienced mentors who will teach them how to leverage accelerated computing in their own applications or further optimize their codes. For more information or to apply, visit the Hackathon page.
SCHEDULED OUTAGES THROUGH JULY 6
Rhea will be unavailable from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, July 3.
