Machine Learning Survey (Open Through Feb 25)
The OLCF is conducting a short machine learning-focused survey that will help inform the facility about our community’s current interest, efforts, and experiences. All feedback will be greatly appreciated. The survey has 10 questions and should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete and will be invaluable in improving the facility’s future machine learning offerings and strategies. The survey closes on February 25, 2022.

Call for Papers: SMC2022
The abstract submission period for the Smoky Mountains Computational Sciences & Engineering Conference (SMC2022) is officially open! SMC2022 will take place August 23–25, 2022 in Kingsport, TN. The theme of SMC2022, accelerating science and engineering discoveries through integrated research infrastructure for experiment, big data, modeling and simulation, focuses on four major areas—theory, experiment, modeling and simulation, and data—that emphasize accelerated node computing and integrated instruments for science. This year, the program committee will accept vision papers that include the author’s perspective on the most important directions for research, development, production, experiences, and investment needs.

Meetings & Workshops

February OLCF User Conference Call: New User Training is Today (Feb 23)
The February OLCF User Conference Call will be held from noon until 1:30 PM Eastern Time today (Wednesday, February 23). During this call, we will present New User Training. This training will provide tips to more effectively utilize OLCF resources and is intended both for new and existing users of the center. A hands-on session will follow the presentation that covers how to login and run jobs on Summit. To help you get started, we will also cover the New User Quick Start Guide, available here. As with all our user conference calls no registration is required. For the agenda, see the event page.

An Introduction to Programming with SYCL (Mar 1)
NERSC will host an introduction to SYCL given by Codeplay from noon until 4:00 PM (Eastern Time) on Tuesday, March 1. ALCF and OLCF users are invited to join. This training will feature half day hands-on workshop that will walk through the fundamentals of SYCL programming using practical examples and exercises. SYCL is an open standard programming model that allows developers to use standard C++ code to program for a range of GPUs and other accelerator processors. OLCF users will need to request a NERSC training account. To resister see the event page.

Upcoming Scheduled Outages

  • HPSS will be unavailable from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, March 1.
  • Home ( will be rebooted between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM on Tuesday, March 1.
