CENTER ANNOUNCEMENTS
2019 OLCF USER MEETING
The Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF) is pleased to announce the 2019 OLCF User Meeting will be held May 21-23 at Oak Ridge National Lab in Oak Ridge, TN. The purpose of the annual user meeting is to share selected computational science and engineering achievements emerging from OLCF’s user programs, to enable direct interactions among users, advance OLCF’s relationships with our user community, and highlight computational requirements for the future. Highlights of the meeting include paired talks from OLCF users and application developers, plenary talks, updates from center staff, a poster session, OLCF User Group Executive Board elections, and tours of OLCF. Additionally, OLCF will offer training on the Monday prior to the meeting for those interested. For more information or to register, please visit the event page.
ASCR LEADERSHIP COMPUTING CHALLENGE (ALCC) CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The 2019 Call for Proposals for the ALCC program is now open. The ALCC program is open to scientists from the research community in industry, academia, and national laboratories, the ALCC program allocates a portion of the computational resources at the OLCF for special situations of interest to the Department’s energy mission, with an emphasis on high-risk, high-payoff simulations. Proposals are due by Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 11:59 PM EST. For more information or to submit a proposal, please visit https://science.energy.gov/ascr/facilities/accessing-ascr-facilities/alcc/alcc-application-details/.
PASC19 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
The Platform for Advanced Scientific Computing (PASC) is pleased to announce that submissions are open for the PASC19 Conference, co-sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and SIGHPC. Submissions are invited for papers, minisymposia and poster presentations. PASC19 will be held from June 12-14 2019 at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. For more information, please visit the conference website.
The deadline for posters is January 13, 2019 and the deadline for papers is January 15, 2019.
DARSHAN LOADED BY DEFAULT ON SUMMIT
The Darshan I/O characterization tool will be loaded by default on Summit after the January 15 outage. It is loaded via lmod, so if necessary it can be unloaded; however, we do not anticipate significant impact to running codes and recommend that it remain loaded.
SUMMIT AND TITAN USER GUIDES REFORMATTED
In response to user feedback, we have reformatted the Summit and Titan User Guides to include all content for each user guide within single documents. Among other things, this makes it easier to search using standard browser tools (e.g. Ctrl-F). The landing pages and section navigation features remain unchanged.
MEETINGS & WORKSHOPS
HPC BEST PRACTICES WEBINAR (JAN 23)
The next HPC Best Practices Webinar, “Quantitatively Assessing Performance Portability with Roofline”, will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM (Eastern Time) on Wednesday, January 23. Participation is free but registration is required. For more information, visit https://ideas-productivity.org/events/hpc-best-practices-webinars/
SUMMIT TRAINING WORKSHOP (FEB 11-13)
On February 11-13, 2019, the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF) will host a Summit Training Workshop on-site at ORNL. This event is meant to help new Summit users (or those intending to use Summit) get up and running on the system. Each day will consist of presentations in the morning followed by hands-on sessions in the afternoons. The presentations are meant to deliver relevant information about the system, while the hands-on sessions are intended to help participants get their own codes running on Summit. OLCF staff and our vendor partners will be available to help during the hands-on sessions. If you would like more information, or to register, please visit the event page.
UPCOMING SCHEDULED OUTAGES
Summit, Rhea, HPSS, and the Alpine filesystem will be unavailable beginning at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, January 15. HPSS will return to service at 4:00 PM, Alpine and Summit will return at 6:00 PM, and Rhea will return at 8:00 PM.
