USER ASSISTANCE CENTER SCHEDULE
The OLCF User Assistance Center will be closed on Monday, January 20 due to an ORNL-observed holiday. NOTE: The ORNL Computer Operations staff will still be available for limited troubleshooting 24 hours a day.
MEETINGS & WORKSHOPS
PERFORMANCE PORTABILITY WITH KOKKOS BOOTCAMP (Jan 14-17)
The next Performance Portability with Kokkos Bootcamp will take place January 14-17, 2020 at the Buffalo Thunder Resort in Santa Fe, NM. This training is intended to teach new Kokkos users how to get started and to help existing Kokkos users to further improve their codes. The training will cover the minimum required topics to get your application started on using Kokkos, and Kokkos experts will be on hand to help the more advanced users. See the event page for more information.
INTRODUCTION TO CUDA C++ (JAN 15)
NVIDIA will present Introduction to CUDA C++ on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. This event is Part 1 of a 9-part CUDA Training Series that NVIDIA will deliver in 2020. OLCF and NERSC will both be holding in-person events for each part of the series, where participants can watch the presentations and get help from experts during the hands-on sessions. Limited remote participation will also be available.
CUDA C++ is an extension of C++ that allows developers to program GPUs with a familiar programming language and simple APIs. This part of the series will introduce you to the basic concepts, syntax, and APIs needed to transfer data to and from GPUs, write GPU kernels, and manage GPU thread groups. After the presentation, there will be a hands-on session where in-person participants can complete example exercises meant to reinforce the presented concepts. While the exercises will be made available to all participants (both in-person and remote), remote participants will not be supported during the hands-on sessions.
IDEAS ECP WEBINAR: REFACTORING EXAALT MD FOR EMERGING ARCHITECTURES (JAN 15)
The next IDEAS-ECP webinar will be held at 1:00 PM (Eastern Time) on Wednesday, January 15. This webinar will be led by Aidan Thompson (Sandia National Laboratories), Stan Moore (Sandia National Laboratories), and Rahulkumar Gayatri (NERSC). Over the last year, the EXAALT MD team has completely rewritten the SNAP kernel from the ground up. Join us in learning more how they achieved roughly 10x in performance over the baseline implementation of the SNAP benchmark running on NVIDIA V100 GPUs. For more information or to register, please visit the event page.
JSRUN TUTORIAL (FEB 18)
OLCF will hold a jsrun tutorial on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. This event is intended to teach new and existing OLCF users how to use the jsrun job launcher on Summit. We will begin with an introduction to jsrun – to bring new users up to speed – followed by more advanced usage (e.g., using Explicit Resource Files (ERF)). After the presentations, participants will be encouraged to work through example problems during a hands-on session.
Both in-person and remote participation will be supported during the tutorial, but only in-person participants will be given temporary training accounts on Summit (for those who do not already have access). The connection details will be sent out to remote participants the day before the event.
To register for on-site or remote attendance, please visit the event page. If you have any questions, please contact Tom Papatheodore.
PERFORMANCE, PORTABILITY, AND PRODUCTIVITY IN HPC FORUM (7-9 APR)
The 2020 Performance, Portability, and Productivity in HPC (P3HPC) Forum is now accepting submissions for technical presentations, breakout sessions, and posters until January 24, 2020. The meeting registration site is also open. The Forum will be held April 7-9, 2020, at the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza hotel. This event provides an opportunity to present on ideas and progress toward the goal of performance portability across current and future high-performance computing platforms.
For more information and for links to the registration and submission sites, visit the P3HPC website. To receive additional meeting announcements, join the P3HPC mailing list.
UPCOMING SCHEDULED OUTAGES
HPSS will be unavailable from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Tuesday, January 14.
